Great article. I’ve often wondered about the integrity of some of the trainers, as I realize it is quite easy to become affiliated.

However, it’s not so much about boxes interfering with one another that I care about, but instead the tarnishing of the CrossFit name.

With the ever-growing popularity of CrossFit, will it slowly evolve into everything it stands against? A globo-type business in which the trainers care less about the program, and instead more about exploiting the popularity and growth of this new program in the past few years?

Any organization is going to have these kinds of growing pains. With CrossFit’s loose structure and lack of central control, it’s going to create more factions than a typical corporation would. But, do these necessarily dilute the brand? CrossFitFootball and CrossFitEndurance are two good examples of people tweaking CrossFit to suit them and still playing nice with the rest of the community. Grey Skull, on the other hand, sound like they think their vision for CrossFit (lift heavy, forget the zone and eat to gain weight) is the only true vision. Does CrossFitKids dilute the brand – those ankle biters need to be more hard core. Maybe the problem is that people expect their counter cultural revolution to be defined by a brand in the first place.
